I've hesitated to post about this toaster, because it could be, it just could be, that my toaster search has ended. (At least for now.) The Krups toaster is not perfect, but it is at the very least satisfactory, and that's a darn sight better than I've seen in months. The satisfactory part comes in the sexy styling, easy operation, evenly browned toast, and so on. The not perfect part is the bagel function, but I'm the first to admit that a good deal of the problem lies in the fact that I store my sliced bagels in the freezer. Asking a toaster to defrost a bagel, warm the outside, and toast the cut side all in one maneuver is kind of a tall order. I'm aware of that. So I'm busily fine-tuning a two-stage bagel operation in which the bagel is fully defrosted and then toasted (cut-side only, natch). But so far I'm happy. I have only the littlest bit of tension when I face it every morning, and that stems from my many months of toaster anxiety, not from any problem with the Krups model itself. Healing takes time.
