The Grass Is Never Greener

We're expecting a thunderstorm any minute now, and it's about time. Someone said yesterday that this past August was the driest August in the history of the planet. Or something like that. Anyhow, we just can't be bothered with watering our lawn—the waste of water, the pain in the neck of setting up and moving the sprinklers, etc. Plus the kids destroy the grass with their bikes and baseball games anyhow. So, this lovely photo is what our "lawn" looks like now. There's this weird little fringe of green all along the driveway—I think it's actually some hardy species of grasslike weed—but otherwise it looks like someone knocked over a big haystack and spread it out all over our yard.

The grass is never greener... except over the other side of the Atlantic. We've just had our wettest August on record, apparently.

Could be a picture of our yard here in Buffalo NY, too. I long since gave up on any thoughts of watering the lawn. It has been a beautiful summer but dry, dry, dry.

You shouldn't water a lawn.

That just encourages it.
