When we want ice cream, we pretty much always go to J. P. Licks. Every flavor is consistently delicious, and the people who work there are nice. We used to go to Ice Cream Club before it closed (yes, we know there's another one, but we always forget it's there) or to Ice Cream Works before that closed too. We never go to Cold Stone Creamery because we think the ice cream is mediocre—and they once messed up a friend's son's birthday cake and refused to make good on it.
We recently read that a new place, Coney Island, had won a blind taste-test for their vanilla, so we headed over today. Pete, Julie, and I all got the Oreo, which was yummy, and Steph got mint chocolate chip, which she also liked. Andy went with the vanilla and found it to be ... completely flavor-free. It was the strangest thing. It was the right color, texture, temperature, everything—but there was absolutely no discernible vanilla flavor at all. Not an artificial flavor, mind you, but no flavor. Either someone forgot to add the vanilla when they mixed up this batch or this is a case of the emperor wearing no clothes. While eating ice cream.

IMHO - nothing beats Bryers Natural Vanilla ice cream for flavor. Though, truth be told, I'm a "Chunky Monkey" guy through and through.
And if you could see how FAR through that is at the moment, you would know I've been indulging just a bit too much.

Try the cake batter Oreo at J.P. Licks. It's amazing. Also, have you been to Pie? Mmmm...

Say it with me, Karen: Kimball's. Learn it. Know it. Live it.
