I've had a package of andouille sausage in my freezer for eons. Maybe this is Fortuna's subtle hint? And I am in the market for a new dishwasher, so perhaps should not look too hard at Thermador. I wonder what Consumers Reports has to say about dishwashers.

That sounds delicious, and I dread replacing my appliances. I really need a kitchen remodel too, so that will force me to make some decisions!

I, too, won't eat green pepper. I, too, love Yale Electric. No wonder we are friends -- even if I've been terrible about keeping up lately!

Slowly over time red pepper has become widely available. It's so much nicer tasting than green pepper! I wonder why those traditional dishes (like New Orleans ones) haven't adapted to use it. But tradition can be sticky, can't it!

Wendy, I am told that if I had been willing to shell out a few bucks (I wasn't), I could've gotten a higher-end Thermador/Bosch dishwasher with a better layout. Eh, it does the job.

What is it with appliances? We all have so many woes- When I was growing up, we had our refrigerator and washing machine for 15+ years and they worked great. I am frustrated too. I have a 4 year old Kenmore dishwasher that no longer pumps out the water. I'm thinking of buying a new one rather then invest money into something that may keep breaking down..Anyone have good luck with dishwasher brands that you could recommend!

In 1993 I bought a KitchenAid refrigerator. When I moved to a new house in 2000, it didn't fit in the slot in the kitchen, so I put it in the basement. It has been running nonstop all this time (I use it for overflow, especially when I'm entertaining). Meanwhile, I'm on my third refrigerator in the kitchen since 2000! I'm sure the old one uses more energy, but it WORKS.

I have a fiend who had the exact same experience with Viking ... she waited a good 12 years before replacing it. I won't be in the market for a new range for a while yet, but I'll check back to see how you like the Thermador when the time comes.

I don't have a dishwasher (I know!) but I'll be sure to pay attention to the layout when I finally cave.

Thanks to your experience, I won't be getting a Viking any time. At all. I've been using a no gadgets, no timer, gas Crosley for quite a few years. It works. My tiny Sears dishwasher has had issues over the years, but as long as you keep the warranty up, at least it gets fixed.

I don't even know where you could get a Viking these days, except for a restaurant supply place! I think they must have decided to ease out of the home kitchen market.

Our dishwasher also takes forever and has no visible indicators of whether it's running/done, and it's so quiet the kids used to throw the door open in the middle of a cycle on the regular. We finally got a "clean/dirty" magnet to use, though half the time whoever turns the dishwasher on forgets to flip it over....
