One year ago today, Stephanie (and her mom) rode in an ambulance for the first time ever! Yes, at this time last year, after a summer full of a bunch of symptoms that didn't quite go together (diarrhea but no cramps, weight loss but no fatigue, and so on), we finally got Steph's complete blood work done and ended up being rushed to Mass. General at midnight for a transfusion and a colonoscopy. And now? She takes her anti-inflammatories and we don't worry too much anymore. Which isn't to say that a day—or even an hour—ever goes by that I don't think about her colitis. If everything stays exactly the same for the rest of her life, I'll be the happiest mama alive, but I also can't help hoping that she gets to go off the meds at some point. They're extremely safe and cause no side effects, but I'd just as soon let her go natural. We'll see what Dr. Israel says in 3 weeks.
