The Red Cross is now projecting at least 100,000 deaths from the tsunami in Asia. Can you even imagine? That's like waking up one day and finding that an entire city, like Cambridge or Provo or Berkeley, has been wiped out. I just went to Amazon and made a simple one-click donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund; I hope you will too.
I hate feeling so helpless!
Thanks for the link.

My husband wants me to check though and make sure that most of the money donated to the Red Cross goes to the cause and not to the bureaucracy. He has heard that they don't have a very good ratio for that--and I would like to know before I donate. How can I find that out?

Oh, my goodness, I just noticed your Netflix and Northern Exposure was filmed in my dad's hometown--we spent a lot of time there as children!

Au contraire, they're good guys. See Charity Navigator (http://www.charitynavigator.org/).

Thanks, Karen. I checked out that link and the American Red Cross gets a 64/70 rating from Charity Navigator whereas the charity that my husband's co-worker recommended,World Vision, has a rating of 61/70. However, that co-worker is ultra religious and World Vision is a local, Christian charity. So, we will be giving our donation to the Red Cross.
