Pete lost his first tooth today! He thoroughly believes in the Tooth Fairy; like Stephanie, he had lots of questions ("How do parents know the Tooth Fairy's phone number?" "Is she smaller than a red ant?" "What if she comes when I'm still awake?"), but unlike her, he didn't seem afraid. He put the tooth right under his pillow, and I've already replaced it with a note and a silver dollar.
We have a Tooth Rat in our family -- his name is Finnegan and he is an Irish tooth rat who lives in our family's general store in Charleston, SC. He travels all over the world to collect teeth from our family. At least that is the story, and I am sticking to it. By the way, the Tooth Rat has a much longer history -- it definately predates the much more santized Tooth Fairy. Why a Rat? Parents wanted their kids to emulate animals with strong teeth!!!
