Remember when I won that $15 Amazon gift certificate? Well, I used it to buy a CD Andy had been wanting (am I nice or what?), Goin' Home by Paul Rishell and Annie Raines. We have several other Paul Rishell CDs, and Annie accompanies him on a few of them. She's an incredible blues harmonica player, and one of the few female harp players out there at all. She even gives lessons locally. Anyhow, this is the kind of old-style rootsy blues music I like; I prefer acoustic Mississippi John Hurt–type guitar to electric Delta blues any day (although Rishell does both). The best track, and the one that Andy keeps playing over and over (until Stephanie begs him to stop) is the live version of one of our favorites on another album (Swear to Tell the Truth), a song called "Some of These Days." This one is much quieter and somehow more heartfelt, and just mesmerizing. I think, all in all, I prefer Swear to Tell the Truth, but I haven't had much chance to listen to this new one much yet so don't quote me on that. Oh, and Paul and Annie also do great live shows, so get out and see them if they're playing near you.
So does that mean you like the soundtract to "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and performers such as Doc Watson, The Carter family and that sort? Hmm, me thinks we may have found another common point in our personalities!
