Our book group finally, finally met to discuss The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. We were supposed to meet a few weeks ago, but 4 people couldn't make it at the last minute. Tonight 5 people couldn't make it at the last minute. This is getting ridiculous! I'm feeling like we should artificially swell our numbers to 10 or 12 just in the hope that 5 or 6 show up at any given meeting. Anyhow, we had a good discussion. We all liked the book but found it almost too heart-wrenching. Wendy liked it so much she read it twice! We were all grateful for the opportunity to learn more about life in Afghanistan before and during the rise of the Taliban. That was the last book in our latest series, so we'll be picking some new ones to get us through the next few months. Any suggestions?
How about "The Summer Guest" by Justin Cronin. I thought it was a very enjoyable read -- and excellently written.

Fiction? Life of Pi was good. And there's always my favorite author, William Gibson, who's latest work, Pattern Recognition, was quite good. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell was good but might be a bit long for a book club.
