10 Books You'd Like to See Made into a Movie
Ugh, most of the time I hate when books are made into movies, so let's operate under the very generous assumption that these books will be made into great movies.
1. The Line of Beauty by Alan Hollinghurst
2. Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant by Anne Tyler
3. The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver
4. Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver
5. The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
6. True Enough by Stephen McCauley
7. Bel Canto by Ann Patchett
8. The Magician's Assistant by Ann Patchett
9. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon
10. Aquamarine by Carol Anshaw
There was a discussion some time ago over at Rox Populi about movie adaptations that lived up to—or even surpassed—their books in excellence. I nominated "The Accidental Tourist," "Jaws," "The Day of the Jackal" (the original, of course!), and "The Hours."
Ahh, I love those Kingsolver novels! The Bean Trees was such a sweet first novel, and then I felt so dang proud of her for Poisonwood--she just keeps growing as a writer.
