Julie has swimming lessons? Is it like toddlers playing in the pool or real swimming? I'm intrigued because my son is just under a year but seems to love water.

Our neighborhood pool offers swimming lessons beginning at age 3 (Julie is 3.5). Julie just holds on to the teacher, who swims around while holding her. She jumps in the pool, into the teacher's arms. She practices holding on to the stairs and kicking. Some of the kids are ready to try to put their faces in or even blow bubbles. I certainly wouldn't call it swimming yet, but it's a start at getting them used to being in the water.

I remember reading somewhere that before the age of 3, kids can't really gain anything from swimming lessons (except for comfort in the water, which is worth something).
