Julie likes to put things away. If she sees something out, she puts it somewhere. Where, though? Who knows?! One day Pete was late to soccer because it took that long to find his shin pads—in her backpack! It's no wonder she loves those IKEA boxes. Her favorite game is to put ever-smaller plastic animals in them and then present the whole set to me or Andy to open. "Oh, a hyena!" "Look, a tiny lamb!"
Well, Julie occasionally puts things away in my bed. And not pillows, either—toys! I don't know why. One time I climbed in next to a little garbage truck. Well, the other night, I let out a shriek to raise the dead when my feet connected with this lovely green and purple lizard, which, I must tell you, has a texture similar to that of a gummy-candy that has been left out in the sun. And it's big, about a foot long from nose to tail. Poor Andy was already asleep when I screamed, "There's something in the bed!" Suffice to say that he leaped out pretty quickly and flipped on the light, then started easing back the covers, asking, "What did it feel like?" "Gooshy!"
She doesn't do it as a prank; she just likes everything to be put away somewhere. Anywhere. Sigh.
