"The Interpreter" - Yet another movie that should have been much better than it was—or at least much shorter. I love Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn, and they didn't disappoint, but overall the movie didn't deliver. It's an interesting story about a UN interpreter who overhears an assassination plot, and the Secret Service stuff was pretty cool. Not a waste of time, but nothing to write home about either.
"Zelary" - I agree with the Netflix description of this movie: gorgeously shot. It tells the story of a woman who works for a Czech resistance group during WWII. She has to hide from the gestapo, so she ends up having to marry a millworker who lives in a remote mountain village. Nothing too surprising happens along the way, but it is really beautiful and touching. Please e-mail me if you have seen this movie; I have a question about the ending. It's not crucial to my understanding of the film, but I'm curious. Thanks!
"The Knowledge of Healing" - We rented this documentary because of our fascination with all things Dalai Lama, and it was pretty interesting overall although a bit too dry and scientific in the middle. The Tibetan doctor, Tenzin Choedrak, was wonderful. I liked learning about Tibetan medicine, which seems to be a mix of homeopathy and traditional Chinese herbal medicine.
