Down to the Wire

I tried. I really did. I watched the first episode of "The Wire." I was not impressed. I slept on it and watched the second episode the next night. I then abandoned it in favor of the penultimate chapter of Madame Bovary (book group tomorrow night!). Yes, you read right: I chose a mid-nineteenth-century French novel over a faux-gritty "Homicide"-wannabe. Not one decent actor in the bunch. Not even one sensible casting choice. And the writing? Unrealistic at best, lame at worst. I can't understand all the fanfare about this show, and yet, Andy's still willing to give the third episode a chance.
