It took us two nights to watch the 1978 Little Feat Rockpalast concert, because we first watched it straight through and then again with the commentary turned on. The commentary consisted of Bill Payne, Paul Barrere, and Liz George talking as they watched the concert video just a few years ago, for the first time. You could really hear in their voices how nostalgic it made them, and we laughed along with them at the '70s clothing and hairdos on the band. If you're at all into Little Feat, I highly recommend that you rent this video, and be sure to watch it again with the commentary turned on. My only disappointment was that they didn't do "Time Loves a Hero."
Meanwhile, today I found the Live Music section of the Internet Archive, which offers tons of live concert downloads from trade-friendly artists, which I think is about as "legal" as noncommercial live concert recordings get. I downloaded a whole bunch of tracks from early concerts and am having quite a Little Feat weekend here!
Update: I forgot to mention that Lowell George taught Paul Barrere to use a Sears socket wrench to play slide guitar. (Lowell used an 11/16"; Paul prefers 5/8".) How cool is that?
downloading live shows is It took a long time for me to kick the habit . . . I feel a relapse coming on.
