I've noticed that people generally fear the wrong things: They think they'll die in a plane crash (or from terrorism on a plane), but they're WAY more likely to die in their cars on the way to the market. Women fear a stranger will assault them, when in fact most rapes are perpetrated by someone the woman already knows. And so on. Here's a clever chart compiled by Ryan Singl, in response to people's fear of terrorism (doubly clever because it uses the same color-coding the government uses for its ridiculous terror-alert system). It shows how unlikely we are to die from terrorism (included in the definition of terrorism is the homemade kind that produced the carnage in Oklahoma City in 1995 as well as 9/11) and how much more likely we are to die from a hernia or an accidental poisoning:

This is very interesting! And I loved Hogan's Heroes as a child because I really didn't have a clue about WW2. And it was funny.
