The other day Bookslut posted a link to a list of "1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die," based on Pete Boxall's book by the same name. As with any list of this sort, there are numerous moments when I said to myself, "That? He included that?!" (for instance, The God of Small Things or What I Loved) as well as realizations that he didn't include that or that (maybe The Kite Runner or The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay). And your list of "thats" would, no doubt, be completely different. All that being said, I do like lists, so I waded through it and ended up with 106 books I'd read cover to cover. There were a few others I started but couldn't finish (The Satanic Verses comes to mind), and plenty that I've always been meaning to read but still haven't (like 1984).
Well, that was a good way to waste 20+ minutes of the workday.
70, and surprised to get that many.
