Julie at Mental Tesserae did an interesting meme today: Name 13 photos you wish you had taken when you had the chance. Most of mine are from my childhood, since my parents were not much in the way of shutterbugs.
1. A nice clear shot of the teenaged me with Grandma Dora.
2. A nice clear shot of the teenaged me with Grandpa.
3. Photos of me in all my various childhood Halloween costumes.
4. A from-the-doorway view of every bedroom I've ever lived in, from childhood through college and various apartments, right up till now.
5. Discreet photos of me nursing the kids. There's only one, and it's not really a good one. That was such a huge part of my life for years, and I like to be reminded of it now and again. I remember the first time I nursed Julie in her room. I shut the door and sat down in the rocking chair, then gasped because I hadn't realized there was a full-length mirror on the back or the door, so I was startled by the reflection. I gazed at us in that mirror for many, many hours over those 18 months or so.
Well, even though that's only 5, categories 3, 4, and 5 would total well more than 13.
Yup, I can totally relate to the grandparent ones. I'm trying to make up for this with my own kids. You never know how much time we'll have to take those photos.
Thanks for taking my challenge seriously.

Okay, I know I'm not computer-lingo savvy; what is meme? Is it like a question? A theme? A memo? Tell me, tell me.

In real life it's a sociology term that describes anything that sweeps through a culture, like a fashion or a slang expression. (See the Wikipedia entry if you're interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme.) In the blogosphere, it refers to an exercise that bloggers use as the basis for a blog post. I do a few weekly ones (like Friday's Feast and Wiki Wednesday -- which I invented!), and then there are occasional one-time-only
