In case I haven't said it often enough, I love-love-love my MacBookPro. I love it almost unnaturally. Um, OK, anyhow, there were only two things that I didn't love-love-love: First, I kept accidentally hitting the caps-lock key, but faithful Verbatim readers will recall that I dispatched that problem easily enough with the Mac's own keyboard preferences feature. So that left only one other thing, and for me it was a biggie: I sorely missed the forward-delete key from my iMac's full-size keyboard. I never realized how often I used it until I didn't have it. Well, Scott came to the rescue and pointed me toward a little app called DoubleCommand that let me remap some keys, including turning that useless little ENTER key down at the bottom into a forward-delete key! (I also had the option of turning the backslash key into a forward-delete key, but then I wouldn't have a backslash key, would I? What one does with a backslash key, I don't know, but I figured I should keep it.) Happy, happy, happy! Oh, and for the record, DoubleCommand lets you do lots of other things too, like swap the Control and Option keys for those who normally use Windows. Kewl.
As I understand it, the combination of "fn+delete" serves the same function as the forward delete key. My MacBook and iBooks all arrived with this setup as a default. This approach does not require any additional application, swapping out of keys, etc. Just a thought...

Yes, that seems to be true, but it does still require a modifier key.
