My Thursday volunteer gig at the school library is such a source of satisfaction to me. All my nerdy little library science dreams come true there, like scanning bar codes on books, shelving—nay, reshelving!—books, replacing torn Dewey Decimal labels on book spines, and so on. I get such pleasure when a child approaches me about a particular book and I can locate it and check it out for him or her! Ah, bliss.
Today was particularly exciting because we are breaking in the new Web-based library software, so a whole 'nother set of my geeky fantasies were satisfied. But wait, it gets better! Someone—and no, I'm not naming names, do what you will, I won't tell—took a pile of books from the book drop and reshelved them without checking them in first! Ack! Smelling salts, please! But with the new software (and not a little grit and determination), my library colleagues and I were able to piece together the mystery and look up each child from the previous class to ascertain whether the books in question had been returned or not, then check them all back in. I love the new computer system. I want to marry it and have its babies.
Towards the end there you had me wondering if perhaps you should open a window when you're working with the binding glue. Just saying.
