We picked up Julie's new glasses today. It's a very strong prescription, so they had to grind them extra-thin, whatever that means (probably an extra $50). She was a teensy bit disoriented at first without the bifocals, but she seemed to adjust quickly. Then when we arrived at school and she hopped out of the car, she remarked with her characteristic good cheer, "The ground is lower now!" I alerted her teachers that she might be unsteady, but at pickup time they said she'd been fine. She did report that on the way out to the playground, she "saw more hills" than usual. (It's a completely flat parking lot. Sigh.) But she also noticed that she can no longer make herself see double (i.e., cross her eyes), which is a very good thing indeed.
I vividly remember picking up a new pair of glasses when I was probably about 10 and walking out of the store and thinking that the sidewalk was tilted. It was frightening and disorienting!
