Last night I drew the short straw and had to go pick up the pseudo-TexMex takeout for dinner. Lucky me, though, because in the car I happened to tune in to a rebroadcast of "On Point" featuring Martin Sexton! I missed most of it, but I'm listening to the whole thing right now here. You can, too.
At one point someone called in and told about a time he saw Marty open for Richard Thompson. He said it was like those old Maxell ads—everyone was just knocked backward into their seats. Richard Thompson then came out and was likewise so blown away that he asked the audience, "Do you want me to go home?" Yes, Richard Thompson said that!
I still don't love his latest CD "Seeds" as much as his earlier stuff, but that's OK.
