Every now and then, an old song comes up on my iTunes and I realize that some things never change. Here's John Prine back in 1971, singing "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore," apropos of those flag decals people plaster all over their cars:
But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven anymore.
They're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven anymore.
For someone with no John Prine (I know, I know, I offer no excuses), what album would you recommend she start with? And do you always just have your 'Pod on shuffle? I don't use that feature all that much -- I tend to go through "fads."
And I went to see OCMS last week, and I cannot stress enough how great they were, and how, next time they're in your neck of the woods, you should go.

I don't normally say this, but I'm going to recommend you go LIVE -- after all, most live albums are "greatest hits" collections. The first live album he did, "John Prine Live," will tell you whether you like him. The second one, "Live on Tour," is more for confirmed fans.
Andy is annoyed that I'm going to suggest a single CD to someone who wants to get to know John Prine, but there's just no other way to do it. If you like the live one, you'll want to explore the various early albums and see what's there. (Oy, now he's starting with "Begin at the beginning, Grasshopper...." )
Yes, I always do "shuffle" -- always.
Love me some OCMS, hope to see them perform live someday.
