I guess the karma gods were paying attention when I plugged Serious Eats the other day; today they (the Serious Eats folks, not the karma gods) emailed me to say that I won a copy of The Tenth Muse: My Life in Food by Judith Jones! To enter, one had to pick a favorite out of a partial list of authors Jones has edited in her venerable career at Knopf:
- Julia Child
- Edna Lewis
- John Updike
- Marcella Hazan
- James Beard
- Joan Nathan
- Marion Cunningham
- Claudia Roden
- Anne Tyler
I picked Julia of course, and my entry was chosen at random! Yay me.
Nice...I love the Serious Eats site. One of my two favorite sites for recipes.

I produced a documentary, Fried Chicken and Sweet Potato Pie, about
Edna Lewis a few years ago. It has an interview with Judith Jones in which she describes how she worked with Edna Lewis to encourage her to write A Taste of Country Cooking and her future books.
You can view the documentary in its entirety at the
