This is going to be the lamest excuse for a blog post ever, but I just finished up my big French project (yes, the second one) only to learn that I'm not really done and have another few days' worth of it. Zut! I haven't been to the gym in weeks, the laundry is preparing a hostile takeover of the house, and there are now two—count 'em, two!—warning lights lit on my car's dash.
I also haven't been keeping up on my reviews of movies, books, and CDs (have you noticed?), so here's what you can expect from me—and soon, I hope:
Movies:
- "The Lives of Others"
- "The Lookout"
- "Lantana"
- "The Limey"
(No, I'm not renting only from the L's in my Netflix queue, it just turned out that way.)
Books:
- Joshua Henkin, Matrimony
- Kiran Desai, The Inheritance of Loss
CDs:
- Mark Knopfler, Kill to Get Crimson
- The Everybodyfields, Nothing Is Okay
- The Avett Brothers, Emotionalism
- [Various Artists], No Depression: What It Sounds Like, Volume 1
- Lyle Lovett, It's Not Big It's Large
Oh, I so love the Avett Bros and "Emotionalism" is great. And I've had that No Depression CD for a long time now, and I love it, too. And I always like Lyle, although this one is not my very favorite. And I'm waiting for the Mark Knopfler CD to arrive. Right now I'm having a fiesta with Los Lobos. And do you know Sam Baker? He's got a new one out -- it takes a little hard listening at first, but you might like it. OK, that's my 2 cents!
