I finished off the cookbook project and sent it back today. It was truly a euphoric feeling! I feel very confident that they will be more than satisfied with my work. In fact, although I was asked only to proofread it, I did catch quite a few errors that should have been fixed in previous stages. I could really visualize each recipe as I read it, so I noticed things that didn't "work" or didn't make sense. I'm also a real stickler for consistency, so I caught lots of little inconsistencies that really make a difference in something like this (like how ingredients and their preparation methods are described, for instance).
I asked whether I could divulge what the book is, and it turns out it's already listed at Amazon even though it won't be out until the fall, so that means it's public knowledge now. It's called Wine Mondays, and it's by Frank McClelland, chef/owner of the well-known, well-loved Boston restaurant L'Espalier. Every Monday at the restaurant there's a 4-course meal with different wines for each course. The seating is all together at big tables, and the chef and sommelier are on hand to discuss the food and wine pairings. And, even though this is an extremely high-end restaurant, the whole thing is just $55/person. Each week is a different theme, maybe a region (like Bordeaux) or a style (all sparkling wines) or whatever. I didn't even know about Wine Mondays before this, but a friend has been and said it's a wonderful treat.
I can't wait until I get my next project from them—hopefully for copyediting this time!
Congratulations on a job well done!
