1. Apropos of my recent review of The Uncommon Reader, which imagines what it would be like if the Queen of England discovered reading and thereby changed her entire worldview, here's a mini-compendium of painfully insensitive gaffes spouted by her husband, Prince Philip, who has clearly no filters whatsoever. Unlike the book, these are real.
2. I poke fun at Cook's Illustrated because I love it. Indeed, I recently joined their corps of recipe-testers and just received my first recipe to test! It's for a garlicky shrimp and pasta dish, but that's all I can tell you for now.
How did you achieve this exalted status with Cook's Illustrated? How fun! I love that mag.

I just went here: http://americastestkitchen.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_3UAyeIsfnPhsnoo&SVID=Prod and a recipe showed up in my mailbox a few days later!

How neat--a recipe tester!
I only saw my first copy of CI when my sister passed on her trial copy to me recently, and I thought it was wonderful.
But then I counted our magazine subscriptions and was horrified that we get around 25 (mostly my husband's). But still, CI seems so useful, so I'll dive in. Now gotta clear me some bookshelf space...ugh.
(Congrats on the cookbook proofreading from your other post, BTW. What a great niche to have!)
