Andy and I took the kids (and some friends) to see "Horton Hears a Who" today. It was really quite cute and, despite the occasional drifts into slang/hip-hop (which seem obligatory in movies these days), pretty faithful to the book. I think Dr. Seuss would have been pleased with the amazing CGI animation of Whoville. It's really remarkable what we've come to take for granted in animated films these days! And even more remarkable, it just occurred to me that there wasn't a single burp, fart, or poop joke in the entire movieāI wonder how that got by the test audiences.
I saw the Wash. Post give it a good review for the same thing--"playing it straight"-- which I find amazing if Jim Carrey's anywhere within 100 miles of a kids' movie.
Yea, Dr. Seuss! It's fun to see the big deal schools make of his b'day. Could he get his own national holiday someday? I always notice at the school library how many Seuss volumes I shelve that show signs of dirty, reckless, loving care. (Then I go wash my hands.)
