We're outside with the kids. We notice a helicopter. Then another. A third. We hear sirens in the not-too-distant distance, and emergency vehicles are racing by the house. What's up?
Turns out there was a train crash on the Green Line (trolley-car extension of the Boston subway system), practically in our backyard. We've been watching on TV since then, resisting temptation to wander over and see the accident scene first-hand.
I'm feeling selfishly grateful that everyone we know would have already gotten off the train, since the crash happened just after dropping off at our neighborhood stop. It appears that all the passengers got out OK, and now they're just trying to extricate the driver of one of the trains.
As Andy said, 'Thank God for firemen." Amen to that.
