One night last week when Steph slept at a friend's house, we finally got a chance to watch an R-rated movie without having to wait till after she'd gone to bed. It was "You Kill Me," directed by John Dahl (of "Red Rock West" fame). Ben Kingsley plays an alcoholic hitman who is sent from Buffalo to San Francisco to dry out after falling asleep instead of offing his target. There he is provided with an apartment, given a job as an assistant at a mortuary, and strongly "encouraged" to attend AA meetings. He soon meets Téa Leoni, a sardonic, more than slightly bitter ad executive who has just enough hope and faith left to give this unlikely guy a try. I'd never thought much of her before, but she was terrific in this—completely believable and likable. Ben Kingsley does deadpan surprisingly well, and there are wonderful small roles for Phillip Baker Hall, Denis Farina, Bill Pullman, and Luke Wilson. This is by no means a Great Movie, but it was very entertaining and worthwhile for an evening of quirky noir comedy.
Will put it on my Netflix queue. I've always liked Tea Leoni well enough. I've never even heard of this movie.
