Last night we had a huge thunderstorm just before midnight; all I could think of was that it was going to be a rainy first day of camp, which is just a bummer all around. But the morning dawned sunny and hot. I dropped Pete and Julie at day camp and came back home to finish packing up Steph for sleepaway camp. We drove up, waited in line, registered, waited in line, passed the lice check (my heart was in my throat waiting for that—can you even imagine?!), and then got back in the car to drive down the hill to Steph's cabin. As soon as we got all her stuff into the cabin, the heavens opened up. It was pouring. We got her all set up and said our goodbyes, then trudged back up the hill in the downpour to the car. The first half of the ride home was just about as intense a rain as I've ever been in on the highway. It was blinding and very scary. Then, all of a sudden, it stopped. We got home to discover that it never rained here all day. Just under an hour north and such a huge weather difference! But poor Steph, here's what she's in for over the next week:
Yes - but don't forget, "scattered t-storms" really means, "Um, it may rain or it may not rain...we really have no idea." And yesterday it only rained for about 10 minutes here on the north shore.

Hope Steph has fun. I think I would have loved sleepaway camp but never got to go. Did you go as a kid?

Yes, Steph goes to the same camp that I went to for 10 years! Both my sisters also went, and my cousins, and my niece and nephew are there now.... Many of Steph's pals are the children of my old camp friends. I remember very well waiting 10 months out of the year for those 2 months each summer....
