MomCentral has asked me to review 30 Days to Natural, the website for Green Works, a new line of natural cleaning products from Clorox.
At the website, you can sign up for daily "green tips" via email or text message to your mobile phone. They also have PDFs of a kitchen checklist and reminder notices to post around your home. The idea is that after 30 days, your home will be more environmentally friendly. They're also following three moms as they try to make these changes in their own lives, and you can watch their progress on video.
It's a pretty nifty idea, because many of us want to "do the green thing" but don't know how to begin. Taken step by step, however, such a daunting challenge becomes doable. What if you made even 5 of the changes, or 10? Every little bit helps. Not everyone can go out and buy a hybrid car, but surely we can all bring reusable bags to the market, no?
Despite the Clorox name, these products contain no bleach and no phosphorus. They are made
exclusively from plant- and mineral-based ingredients—many of them
biodegradable—and are never tested on animals. I received a sample bottle of the all-purpose cleaner, which I quickly tried out on my kitchen counters. (I actually found myself wishing for a big mess somewhere, but alas! There was just the usual daily grime.) It worked great, certainly as well as the not-so-natural stuff I've been using all these years. And when it comes right down to it, that matters to me a lot. I've tried all-natural cleaning products before, but if they don't do the job, I won't use them. So I think I'll be trying out the rest of the Green Works line as I run out of my other stuff.
