I forgot to mention another good thing that happened yesterday—although I didn't actually witness it.
Our neighbors across the street, that "third set of grandparents" I've mentioned before, are the kind of elderly couple who do everything together. They go to the market together, they go to each other's doctor's appointments together, etc. And early every Saturday morning, they drive down the street to Rocco's salon, where Madeline has been getting her hair done for decades.
Madeline called yesterday afternoon to tell me that as they backed out of the driveway just before 7:00 am, Cosmo pointed in astonishment to our yard. A deer was standing right in the middle of our lawn! A real deer! With antlers and everything! Can you imagine? She thought about going back into her house to call me, but she worried that she'd wake us—and she had her appointment to get to.
I reminded her that some years ago, Andy had left the house very early one morning and saw a deer on their lawn, and another time he saw one crossing Washington Street right near the Newton-Wellesley Hospital. We think they must live on the golf course over there.
They really are spectacular creatures, aren't they?

One time my husband walked outside and almost ran into one in our yard. And we are in a neighborhood. We have lots of wildlife though - skunks, foxes, raccoons. All kinds of critters you may not want to run into.

Deer are plentiful here in Wisconsin. We spend a lot of time grumbling about them and trying not to hit them with our cars.
