Do you remember those Preserve toothbrushes I reviewed last summer—the ones that were made from recycled yogurt cups and such? Well, the lovely folks at Preserve have sent me a funky green colander to introduce their line of kitchen implements made from recycled goodies. In addition to colanders, they also offer mixing bowls, cutting boards, measuring cups, and food storage containers, all in bright green, blue, or red. And many of these cool items are now available at Target!
Check out Preserve's Gimme 5 program for a look at how they're helping people recycle their #5 plastics (which are collected in my town, but apparently not everywhere else). If you buy products that come in #5 plastic tubs (yogurt is the usual suspect, but there are many others, from hummus to sour cream) and your community recycling program doesn't accept them, you can just send them to Preserve! Or, even easier, starting this month you'll be able to drop them off at select Whole Foods stores.
And Preserve's efforts to do the right thing for the environment don't end there—look at all the other wonderful programs and initiatives they're undertaking.
So, back to the colander. It's great-looking, has a nice heft to it, and can go in the dishwasher. What could be bad? Here's how it looks filled with steaming hot spaghetti:
Snazzy, eh? I could use a new cutting board, so I'm eager to look for these next time I'm at Target.
That's great about the #5's! I can only recycle #1&2 - and then, only if my husband takes them to his university to their recycling program. I also saw on their website that they take Brita filters, too, which several people in my family use. Thanks!

I think those bright colors are great, especially on these dreary winter days. I'm going to look for those at Target too.

Someone gave me a gift card for Kohl's, and I used it to replace my cutting board. I found a great Chicago Cutlery bamboo cutting board, and I LOVE it. Bamboo is a natural non-bacterial, and it is also beautiful...plus, this one is a good size too...
