Andy and I finally realized what that big, gaping hole in our lives was: We couldn't remember the last time we'd made our 5-hour roast duck. The recipe is here, but I neglected to provide photos when I posted it, so here's tonight's food porn for you:
If you make this—and I strongly encourage it—be sure to serve rice or some other starch to soak up all that yummy orange sauce. This time we used the juice of blood oranges (ever seen red OJ?), but bitter Seville oranges, when in season, make a tart sauce that's a nice counterpoint to the rich duck.
If you've never made duck and are intimidated by the very idea (Hi, Amy!), rest assured that this recipe, while time-consuming, couldn't be easier. Be sure to open a big red wine to go with it.
Oh, and now I've got nearly 1¾ cups of duck fat waiting in the fridge for the next time I roast potatoes!
I have two ducks in the freezer to cook while DD is home on a break from school in France. She loves duck so the timing on this is perfect. I haven't cooked duck since we were first married and that is almost three decades ago......Just hoping mine look as good as yours.

Some day, I will make this duck. I have a feeling it would be a good way to make someone fall in love with you, if you needed such a maneuver.

OMG! I am SO hungry! Just read the duck recipe and the roasted potato recipe. That's a lot of food for a single person. Well, actually a lot preparation to feed a single person :) Wish I had someone to help me make it. I don't think I've ever even seen duck at the store. But then again, I was never looking for it.
