You know that Andy and I can't get enough of heist movies, so today we watched "The Bank Job," which was appropriately named. A bunch of amateur crooks knock over the safety deposit vault at a Lloyds of London bank in the early '70s. From what I've read, the heist actually did occur, although much of the background story was likely invented for this movie.
I really enjoyed this movie. First of all, I most definitely dig Jason Statham, the leader of the ragtag burglary crew. But, more than that, the plot and its requisite (but followable) twists kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. There was a light-heartedness to it, with a few "bumbling amateur" gags, but there was also a very dark and violent sideāit was not all fun and games by any means.
I'm trying to remember which DVD we watched recently that had the trailer for "The Bank Job," because I immediately added it to my Netflix queue. Was it "Eastern Promises"? Or "In Bruges"? Something similarly dark and violent but with a certain amount of fun in it too. In any event, today we saw a half-dozen trailers for movies to add to our queue, mostly (no surprise) Lionsgate films featuring Jason Statham.
That smile would have made for a great Wordless Wednesday picture. Enjoy.
