1. It seems that ice cream joints have been closing right and left these last few years. We were first big fans of Ice Cream Club in Wellesley Hills and Ice Cream Works in Newton Highlands. Neither exists anymore. In truth, J. P. Licks is still the best, but it's a bit of a schlep and a pain to park in Newton Centre. Well, enter the latest player: Freeze, right here in Waban Center! We went yesterday, a week before the grand opening, to find a small selection of ice creams and a large selection of what they call Italian ice and I call sorbet. I got a lemon sorbet that was refreshing and lovely. It was pricey, though—$3 for a small cup of sorbet, $3.40 for ice cream.
2. We ate last night at L'Andana in Burlington. L'Andana is the suburban sibling to Sorellina and our beloved Mistral, both downtown, and it fully lived up to its family reputation. The room is lovely, the service excellent, and the food delicious. For me, the highlights were the truffle fries; the garlicky, buttery herb bread; and my appetizer, a special that featured quail and prosciutto on parmesan polenta. Yum yum yum all around.
Sounds great! I wish Burlington wasn't an hour away for us. Still want to try the Local for their truffle fries!
