We had so much fun this afternoon (well, except for Andy, who was at work)! Remember when Emily at Gamewright introduced us to some of their games last month? Well, today, Jason came by to show us prototypes for a couple of new games in the pipeline.
Steph, Pete, Julie, and I sat around the kitchen table while Jason observed us, taking notes on what we liked and didn't like, what we did and didn't understand, and so on. First we played a really cute card game—twice. It was very easy to learn how to play, but I could tell that there were some strategical points that would come after even more rounds.
Then we played a very complex game that required us to collaborate in order to "win." We loved this game—and we really could have used Andy, who is great at this sort of thing. I think it was a wee bit over Julie's level; Pete was quite good at it, but I think his head was ready to explode by the end of the game (this was the hardest he has had to think all summer!); Steph surprised me by really liking it even though it required strategy and advance planning (not her strong suits); and I found I had to restrain myself from being bossy—and I'm not sure I was successful at that. This was truly a unique and fascinating game.
The kids said they'd like to own both games when they come out, which I think is high praise indeed. We invited Jason to come back anytime that he needs game testers. Oh, and he left us with another new game, Tiki Topple, which we intend to try out tomorrow—stay tuned for our review.
Tell us when it comes out - and what it's called. I am not so great at strategy games, but I know a few kids who would love a game like that!
