Today was supposed to be the day that Barbara and Jerry took Steph and Pete to the Red Sox playoff game at noon, only Jerry got some weird infection in his ankle last night and was told to stay off it for a couple of days while the antibiotics do their stuff. After a run-through of all the possible options, we decided that I would take Steph and Pete, and we invited Pete's pal Henry, who is about as rabid a Sox fan as fifth graders get, and also just a really great kid. His mother said that she woke him up and gave him the news, and he was fully dressed in all his Red Sox regalia within about 90 seconds.
We were having such a blast, and the Sox were ahead the whole time, and the game was so wonderful ... right up until the moment when it stopped being wonderful and we lost. You could've heard a pin drop as we all left Fenway with our heads hanging down. But it was fun and exciting while it lasted.
Bye, Fenway! See you next spring!
Ugh, you were there. I'm sorry. I've never been to a playoff game in all of my years of fandom, but I'm glad I didn't make my maiden voyage yesterday.

That was the most depressing game I've seen since the Aaron Boone homer in the '03 playoffs. Phhhhttttbbbbbtttt.
