Today felt like a series of starts and stops. After yesterday's washout of both Pete's and Julie's soccer games, we were pleased when this morning brought clear skies. But 'twas not to be: Julie's practice at 11:30 was canceled; the field were still too soggy and muddy. (Andy explains that it's not always a question of whether it's safe to play, but whether you want to chew up the field with cleats for a practice and thus ruin it for the rest of the season.)
Pete's rained-out game yesterday was rescheduled for this afternoon, which meant that Andy and Pete could not come with me and the girls for our annual charity apple-picking event through the temple (no, I did not chair it this year). We left our rain jackets and sweatshirts in the car (and wished we'd worn shorts) and picked four bags of Macouns and Honeycrisps to be donated to local food pantries (who normally don't have any fresh produce to offer their communities).
Then we drove home, planning to head over to Pete's game, only to find out that it had been canceled! The fields were still closed! WTF? It was a magnificently warm, sunny, dry day! But the powers that be said no.
Later we decided on a whim to go out to dinner, so we headed over to Acapulco ... only to learn that it was gone! An Irish pub is going to open in its place. We decided on the fly to try the Biltmore, where we had a really good meal in a really good atmosphere. This is a terrific place to go with or without kids, early or late. Trust me.
Acapulco is moving to the old Ground Round in Needham. Don't know if it is open yet. Love the apple idea!
