The Times has a fun interactive thingy that lets you see what the most popular Netflix rentals were in your ZIP code in 2009 (well, if you live in one of the twelve metropolitan areas they feature). Here's what my neighbors and I watched last year:
- Milk (Yes, I rented that from Netflix.)
- Slumdog Millionaire (That one I actually saw at the cinema!)
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (That one's still languishing in my queue, currently at #387. I'm in no hurry to see it.)
- Rachel Getting Married (Yup, got that from Netflix.)
- Doubt (That one's at #376 in my queue.)
- The Wrestler (#380)
- Vicky Cristina Barcelona (#367)
- Gran Torino (#9)
- The Reader (#377)
- Body of Lies (This is the only one on the list that I hadn't seen or planned to see—or even heard of. I just now added it to the bottom of my queue, #419.)
Isn't it curious that 5 of the 6 movies in my queue were in the high 300s? I wonder why that is. (Note that I do tend to move things around a bit, so I'm likely to see some of these movies a lot sooner than others ahead of them.)
Interesting grouping of movies!

I have watched five of these! Netflix has something similiar where it tells you what the people in your town are currently enjoying.

My word of advice about Benjamin Button: don't.
That movie had no business being nominated for anything other than the make-up. It was over-long, stupid and Brad Pitt does not need to get nominations just for looking pretty, we already know he's gorgeous.

We really liked Doubt a lot. I watched it with my 15 y.o. son and even he liked it. Don't let it languish too long.
