But I did splurge on two things that Steph really wanted. The first was the party favors (I know, it seems weird that you have to give the kids a favor after inviting them to a party!). There are some very extravagant favors going around out there, but I was not buying into that. What I did agree to do was order personalized M&Ms:
(I don't know if you can tell, but they say either "Mazel Tov" or "Steph 2/6/10.") Each kid got a little bag of them tied with a pretty ribbon. Cute, huh?
The other thing was to hire a guy to do airbrush tattoos during the party. Steph had been to a party that had it and really loved it. As it turned out, the kids were most definitely not the only ones getting them—quite a few adults did too! Here's my forearm:
(Supposedly that means love in Chinese. If it's really something horrible, please don't tell me. My friend Lisa's daughter just confirmed that it does indeed mean love, but I had it sidewise, so I just rotated it.) Andy got a Batman logo on his bicep. Steph got a tiger on her arm and a lightning bolt on her leg. It gave the kids (and adults) who weren't dancing something fun to do for a little while.
What fun splurges! (So, what was YOUR tattoo?) :o)

OK, now it's time to ask the big question. Does our dear Verbatim author have any REAL tattoos? LOL

Why is a party less expensive in the afternoon?
Your food did sound damned good. I am so glad it all went well!

It's usually cheaper to rent a venue in the afternoon. Also people generally drink less booze in the daytime, although there was plenty of drinking at our party! And you don't need to buy everyone a whole separate outfit (one for morning at temple and one for evening party). All that stuff starts to add up.

Karen,
where to begin? I've loved reading about the entire journey, loved the purple dress --ha! beginning to photo(s), love them M&M's, the tattoos, love all of it.
This is why you blog and this is why I read.
xoxo
