I had such a nice Mother's Day, and I hope everyone out there did too—whether you are a mother or have/had a mother or know a mother. (Did I get everyone?) Andy and I reused the birthday plan, which consists of him getting up early (which is his wont—he needs that coffee) and telling the kids they have to wait before bringing me breakfast in bed. Then, when I wake up, I send him a text message, at which point he says to the kids, "OK, Mom has slept enough, let's wake her!" Then they bring me a tray of challah toast, tea, and a clementine, along with a flower in a vase and many Mother's Day cards. We have a few moments of warmth and celebration, then they leave me alone with my MacBookPro and tea to play Scrabble and listen to the Avett Brothers. Hey, it works for me.
Later the girls and I went off to a family brunch, but Pete and Andy had a Little League game to get to. (Pete had missed the game on Friday night because his grandparents invited him and Steph to the Sox-Yankees game, which was a total rout but still fun. Pete was torn about whether to go—"But my team needs me!"—but we convinced him that his grandparents and the Sox need him too.) He had a great game today, relief-pitching the team to a 21-12 win and getting 5 RBIs. I'm telling you, spending an extra year in AAA is turning out to be the best thing that ever happened to him.
Later I did have to tend to some work that's due tomorrow, but it didn't take all that long. Meantime Andy made dinner and even brought out a lovely Ribera del Duero that I'd never seen before. All in all, a lovely day and evening to be a mom.
