Remember I told you about Yoursphere, the kid-safe alternative to Facebook? If not, you can read what I posted here, and you can check out Yoursphere itself here.
So far my kids are absolutely loving Yoursphere. In fact, since joining Yoursphere, Steph hasn't once nagged me about joining Facebook—which had been a daily (if not hourly) occurrence before. The kids have made tons of "friends" and are having a blast exploring this online community in a way that gives me peace of mind. Steph has even "met" another girl who has colitis, and she is delighted to have someone to compare notes with.
One of the coolest parts of Yoursphere is the "spheres," which are sort of like clubs that the kids can create and join. A sphere can be about a particular TV show or math homework or pets or a favorite band or anything at all. My kids have all joined a bunch of spheres, where they chat about their various interests, such as movies you like to watch over and over again (Steph) or videogames (Pete) or art (Julie). And they've even started their own spheres! Julie started one about Webkinz, Pete started "Avatar" and soccer spheres, and Steph started one about cellphones and one about "Glee" and a few more, I think. Steph was positively thrilled when she logged on last week and found that her cellphone sphere was the "featured sphere"!
If you have kids and you're concerned about their online activities, I urge you to check out Yoursphere. Membership is free, and I think kids of all ages will love it. If you do sign up, please put YSMC-0030 in the referral code field to show that you heard about it from me.
