I've just had the nicest 24 hours! Back story: Several years ago (not sure when, exactly), Steve left his first comment here at Verbatim, and we soon became fast (online) friends. We started emailing about books, and cooking, and life, and ... yes, he's the one who sent me the beautiful vase he made in pottery class. Fast-forward to a few weeks ago, when he told me that he and his long-time partner, Cliff, were planning to get married. Boo/Hiss on laws in Georgia, where they live, but we were more than happy to welcome them up here to Massachusetts, the land of great laws and bad weather—I think that should be the new slogan, yes?
And here's the cool part: They asked me to be a witness at the wedding! So we decided that we'd better meet in real life before the big event. Andy and I took them out last night to Sorellina, which was divine. We'd been wanting to go there for some time. I started with a yummy parsnip soup and then had the entrée-size portion of the lobster pasta "cushions," which were delicious. (Although once I tasted Steve's stuffed beet pasta, I wished I'd ordered that! Oh. My. God.) Cliff had some lovely pan-seared scallops, and Andy went with the steak. Oh, and then dessert! Really, a wonderful evening in all ways.
So today was the big day! Steve and Cliff went to pick up the marriage license and then came to our house to change into their wedding suits. And off we went to see the Justice of the Peace! The ceremony was lovely, and of course I wept. But look how happy they are (oh, plus me):
A big Mazel Tov to the happy couple, and many thanks for including me in your celebration.
Congratulations!

Thank you Karen (and Andy) for adding so much to this amazing week. You're even smarter, funnier (and prettier) in person. It was an unconvential wedding on most counts and Cliff and I are really happy with how everything worked out. Thank you for being such a great friend!

I'm weeping just reading it! How lovely!! (I've heard of many online friendships, of course, but rarely ones that develop into in-person friendships. Maybe I just don't get out enough into cyberspace?). Mazel tov, all around!

Such handsome grooms! And you look terrific. Much happiness to all and many years more of it to come.
Also, describe the beet dish.
