Wendy

I still cringe when I recall mispronouncing "assauge" in a seminar when I was in college. Aloud. In front of graduate students and everything. Twice, in fact.

Karen

Maybe because you're spelling it wrong? It's "assuage"!

Joel

Can't we just make "miscellany" one of those words with two proper pronunciations? I don't want to have to re-learn it now!

scott

Isn't it pronounced MISS-a-laney?

Wendy

Can't pronounce or spell that damned word, it appears. Or at least, not very well.

Con

Sunday Miscellany is one of my favourite radio shows. It might comfort you to hear that in Ireland and the UK we pronounce it miss-SELL-uh-nee!

Karen

Scott, yes, I guess the emphasis is even more on the MISS than on the LAY, although they sound almost equal to my ear.

Karen

Aha! I did think it sounded vaguely British to me! Thanks, Con!

Elena

Yay, I've been pronouncing it right (in my head) all along!
