Andy is off this week, but unfortunately I found myself in a bit of a work crunch. I had all of my regularly scheduled cookbook projects, plus a fairly tedious physical therapy textbook that was delayed months ago and suddenly resurrected itself all in a rush-rush fashion (of course), and on top of that the Tom Wolfe novel for proofreading, which I knew was going to be on a tight schedule. It was pretty exciting to see the original Wolfe manuscript; he doesn't use Track Changes, so his handwritten insertions and deletions and replies to the copyeditor's queries were right there in pencil—cool! I ended up with the last fourth of the book, so I'm the only one who knows how it ends. Bwahahahaha! (The butler did it!)
Anyhow, on Monday I worked while Andy took the girls to the new Wimpy Kid movie. I can't remember what Pete did—saw some friends, maybe? That night Andy and Pete went to watch a Patriots exhibition game, which they both enjoyed despite the horrific traffic on the way to Gillette Stadium. (Oh, while I have you, I think I forgot to mention that in July, Andy and Pete went to Fenway to watch a Liverpool-Roma soccer match! They loved it.)
On Tuesday, I continued working while Andy took the girls to the beach. Pete had been invited to go on a private whale watch—just 6 people plus the guy driving the 28-foot boat! I had warned him not to be too disappointed if he didn't see a whale ... well, it turned out that they saw hundreds of whales, as well as dolphins! And close up, too:
So everyone had summer fun except me, wah wah wah.
But I got a lot done, so yesterday all of us went to the beach! It was a magnificent day, and not too crowded. (If this statistic is true, then 1 out of 5 U.S. adults was at Good Harbor Beach yesterday. Just sayin'.)
Today I resumed working but took time out to go with the family to stuff our faces at Minado. Nom Nom Nom
And guess what? I got a huge amount done, so I think I can probably hang out with the family tomorrow and over the weekend, at least part of the time. Yay me!
It makes me feel like a stodgy, old man, but I just really dislike tattoos.
