Sounds like an absolutely fabulous trip! I did not know that Lisbon was so hilly, although your photo of those stairs reminds me of a scene from the movie "Love, Actually." I'm also surprised that Lisbon is the oldest city in Western Europe! Older than Rome? Now I need to go read up on this. (If you're saying "dice" in Salamanca, I think you should be using the "th" sound instead of the "s," right? Even more fun if you're pronouncing "cerveza.")

I was surprised too! But according to Wikipedia, "Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the oldest in Western Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome by centuries."
Re Spanish, I don't do the "th" sound, except when I say "izquierda," which is just plain fun!

Thanks for the report and photos, Karen! What a wonderful trip!

Oh, that all sounds lovely. I think Sam will be in Brazil next year, so maybe we'll try to do something similar. It's great you had such a good time.

I loved Spain, and my older daughter was just in Lisbon and raved about how wonderful it was. I might have to add that to my travel list! Glad the trip was so wonderful.
